They kind of had to, because the actual story wasn't dramatic
enough to make into a movie. We had one of the missionaries come in and do a fireside for our ward when I was a youth in OR. It was a great story to hear in person, but I remember hearing that they made a movie and I thought to myself that it was going to be a boring movie. I ended up liking it, but I wouldn't ever watch it again.
