Outside of a few good players they really aren't any good
Looking at the WARP numbers (wins above replacement player) on ESPN, their top PG (Raymond Felton) rates as the 22nd best PG in the league. What's even worse is their top PF (Kenyon Martin) rates as the 40th best PF in the league. For those that still think Amar'e Stoudemire is a good player - he ranks dead last among PFs in the league in WARP. They do have both Tyson Chandler and JR Smith who are slightly above-average starters - ranking 12th and 13th at their positions respectively. Carmelo Anthony is their only star player and he rates as the #4 SF in the league according to WARP.

Basically - their PG play is below average and their post players outside of Chandler are pretty awful as well (below average would be a complement to that group). They have good wing play with Carmelo, JR Smith, and Iman Shumpert, but they need a lot more than that to be competitive.
