Jon Wilner looks at WCC's search for a new commissioner
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2014/04/24/west-coast-conference-the-search-for-a-commissioner/

"The league wants a permanent replacement in the hot seat on July 1. Portland athletic director Scott Leykam, former Portland (and Marquette) AD Larry Williams and Lynn Holzman, the WCC’s current COO, are three potential candidates, according to sources. But I’m sure there are others and the goal here is not to evaluate their merits or speculate on the eventual outcome."

...

"Zaninovich modernized the conference in much the same way Larry Scott modernized the Pac-12, although I’d caution that the processes are more fraternal twins than identical. (Whereas the Pac-12 is run very much like a pro sports league, the WCC has retained its collegiate essence.)"

...

"How much better can the basketball product get? I’d argue that it’s perilously close to maxing out — unless there is a shift in sentiment at the highest level: At the presidential level."

It's not to surprising that a bay area guy like Wilner would say that the WCC is topping out. Will the presidents of Portland or San Diego start spending $6 million on hoops instead of $3? It'll be interesting to see how the new NCAA rules shake out with the WCC.
