I'm going to try and layout where I see college football, and hopefully people can look at this objectively instead of just attacking me. Here's what we know so far:

- BYU talks with the BIG12 failed to earn BYU membership
- No other P5 conference has shown any interest in BYU yet
- ACC and SEC have opted against including BYU as a +1
- BYU struggled to get H and H's with good P5 schools before being excluded as a +1
- P5 schools want their own division within college football and autonomy
- P5 conferences are considering playing inter-conference games against non-division teams for OOC games
- P5 conferences are talking about more scheduling agreements - PAC/BIG and SEC/ACC which leaves even less scheduling opportunities for BYU
- BYU does carry some baggage (Prop 8, Sunday play, etc.) that might turnoff schools or conferences


It's pretty clear that the P5 schools would be happy with their own division, just playing against each other. ESPN, FoxSports, and the other channels are probably on board with the idea because an Oregon vs Wisconsin game is much more attractive than Oregon vs. Weber State. Let's look at the positives:

- BYU has a great history and brand
- BYU has a deal with ESPN
- BYU is solid in almost all sports, and would be a good addition to any conference
- BYU has fans all over, they fill up the stadiums BYU plays in
- BYU has the resources to compete with the big boys


I'm sure I'm missing a lot of the pros and cons, but this is a decent start. When I look at the fact that BYU was passed up for Utah in the PAC and missed out on the BIG12, I have little hope that we'll magically find a way in during the next few years. I think that college football will continue moving towards the split, and I don't see BYU being included. My Huskies post was a little tic, and there are 100 other possibilities besides the scenario I laid out, but realistically I don't know that BYU football will be relevant in five years.
