1280 is claiming to "know" something it may in fact be wrong about.

Time will tell. But it sounds as if 1280 put itself right in the middle of this story by choice.  See here:

"Before the original report was broadcast, the radio station gave BYU a detailed report of the forthcoming information and the opportunity to respond as it desired. At the least, the allegations have merit, as BYU’s acknowledgement of an investigation has proved."

So 1280 is claiming to know something from an anonymous source, but will still not go on record of who the source(s) is.     Question is, what if their source lied to them about details it gave, simlar to the Darren Lucy story? What then? Since their source still has anonymity, they can hide behind it.    Out them, and let's see what happens, if it all holds up.

But if it is truth, I expect the cosequences to be serious.  BYU will not mess around, neer do.  Problem is, I do not trust some anonymous source with an axe to grind who might have "heard something", ran to the media with it without having a shred of proof, and then the story took off from there.  And this is what I expect to have happened now.

By the way, I'd like to congratulate 1280 for the bang up job they did reporting the Keith McGill DUI that happend the night of the BYU-Utah game in 2011.  Well done guys on reporting that public record story so well.
