We were winners of BYU50 box yesterday. Warning- long post with details. Read at
your own discretion.

I've been a CB member for at least 5+ years, but don't really want to reveal my identity, so my wife created this account to post about our adventure. I'll give a little play by play, but I realize that this is setting myself up to be made fun of, but it's all good.

Sunday night we were cleaning up dinner and talking about the next days plans. 2 of our kids had activities and we were working out how to get them there. I threw out that the was this #BYU50 box thing going on and my wife and kids jumped all over it. My wife is pretty competitive and my kids just loved the idea. They are huge Cougar fans. We all are. We even had season tickets for a couple of years despite living in California. We just decided that since we were going to be out and about anyways, lets go for it.

I got off work at about 4:30 and headed up to Mission Viejo area to meet my wife to help drop off our sons, who had different activities at different locations. We were debating on strategy. We didn't want to just waste a bunch of time driving all over blindly. We discussed a couple of locations and just were guessing that Disneyland, Angels Stadium or the Honda Center could be spots. My 6 year-old was with me and when he heard about the Ducks playing at Honda, he was really adamant that we go there. What else were we going to do? It was about 5:10 and we had until 6:45 to pick up my 9 year old from basketball practice. So we just headed up to Honda Center.

Traffic was terrible. I was about 5 minutes away from Honda Center when they posted the pic of Angels Stadium. Honda Center and Angels Stadium are just about 1/2 mile apart. So we were so close. With traffic and trying to find an open gate to the parking lot, we got to the box 9 minutes after they post pic. The winner had beaten us by 2 minutes. My 6 year ols was so sad, but it was a total rush and we had a great time.

We went home and met my wife. Everybody was thrilled by the hunt. We decided we just had to go for the second one. They were posting San Francisco and San Diego while we were driving so we didn't know if we could make it anywhere. Picked up 9 year old at 6:45 in Mission Viejo. It was decision time. We felt that it would be in South Orange County. We eliminated Newport Beach thinking it was too close to Anaheim. We couldn't really think of any iconic places except for beaches. We came up with our top 2 or 3. My wife is from Orange County and she said the most likely place would be San Clemente Pier. Kids wanted Pedro's Tacos anyways, so it was a plan and if we missed the box the drive would be worth it for some Pedro's.

My wife was driving. Much more aggresive then me. I was navigating and checking Facebook feeds. We got to the pier and nothing had been posted yet. We debated getting out and waiting on the beach. So we pulled into the parking lot. Literally as we were parking my 6 year old looked up and saw the box. He had been teasing the whole time saying he saw it, so we dismissed it. That's right when the post went through on Facebook. My son kept saying, it's right there, right there. We hadn't parked yet, but spotted it. We were literally 100 feet from it. Total luck and guessing. My kids and I jumped out. We were all in our BYU gear. We ran up there. So fun.

My 11 year old has special needs and been having a tough summer. His birthday is today and he was the first one to get there. He loves presents and so to him he thought it was his first birthday present. He was so happy and excited. It was a really fun moment for him.

My wife parked and come up with my 3 year old daughter. She wouldn't put her BYU shirt on and had to have the little Cinderella dress that you see her in. It was really fun night for us. The 6 year old, who spotted it and also chose to go to Anaheim for the first box, in particular was excited. Great memories.

I know some people think its rigged or there is cheating. Not at all. Just educated guesses and a lot of luck.

We both have posted about it and tons of comments and texts from people. Lots of them not BYU fans or Mormons, and they can't get over what a great idea it is.

My kids want to be the ones to hide the boxes now. They asked the people that dropped the box if anybody was doing Rhode Island or Maine because if they didn't have anybody then they would be willing to fly out there and do it.

Hope they continue to do it in the future.

Even if we wouldn't have gotten it, it was a great night.
