The skill set that makes a good craftsman and the skill set that makes a good
businessman don't often overlap. I worked a few summers for guys like that back in the day. They were all very good at the craft they were doing, but none of them were particularly good at running their business, including customer relations.

I also saw that when something went wrong and they got behind schedule, they invariably took care of the people who were there biggest pains to deal with. The nice customers were always last and had the biggest delays. Which is understandable, but it taught me to always be a squeaky wheel with these kinds of guys.
