The easy answer is a conference championship game....but....
that is a selfish reason for me as well because it possibly gets BYU an invite. The CCG doesn't necessarily solve the underlying problem, which is they need their marquee programs in Texas and Oklahoma to start playing top ten worthy football year in and year out. It didn't help to have Nebraska, Missouri and A&M leave over the past few years. Those defections really gutted that league and the fact that the conference let Texas and Oklahoma hold so much power serves them right. They are suffering the results. They have gotten weaker. TCU and West Virginia do not equal Nebraska, Missouri and A&M....not even close.

Now they are in a position where adding two more teams may dilute their conference strength even more, even with a CCG. Sure they like splitting the money 10 ways instead of 12, but their current plan is going to see them continue to slide into irrelevance unless Texas and Oklahoma start to surge again. I don't see that happening anytime soon though.
