They would vote yes for a couple major reasons. First, adding BYU locks up all of the Wasatch Front Market and other areas where BYU has a strong following. That means more PAC 12 Network subscriptions on Dish/Direct TV and more ratings which equals more money. Second, they need the BYU game on their schedule to generate relevance. Without the rivalry, people quickly lose interest in Utah as they continue to stumble through the PAC 12. Having BYU in means Utah can keep scheduling its non-conference cupcakes and have BYU take the place of another PAC 12 team in the schedule. Third, the only area where there is recruiting competition is in Utah, and I hate to break it, the state of Utah is not Texas, Florida, California, or any states in the South. In other words, this is not as huge of a battle as some think. BYU recruits all over based on its connection to the Church and Utah recruits on the West Coast in hopes of catching those passed up by CA schools. Fourth, there would be a lot of political pressure to vote yes and there are many people at Utah that have BYU connections.
