Jamaal also got to step in and be the man. He was way better than Alisa and I think he should have started the season, but if Alisa doesn't break his arm, then what? Doesn't mean he's not good, but knowing coaches, they may not have given him much of a chance.
Harvey Unga didn't. Why? Because he had a RS while Brown was the man. I know it was because of injury, but he wouldn't have been a standout.
Freshmen usually do when there's nobody in front of them. Occasionally you get a few who step up and just blow upperclassmen away, or just really stand out. But that's not that often.
What did you really expect from him? When you're behind Gray, Brown, Bergeron, you're going to have to wait your turn. Eddie Lacy had to wait his turn to be the man why? He had Ingram and Richardson in front. I wonder how many yards Johnson would have had if he wasn't stuck behind 3 RBs and 3 WRs as a freshman???
Get it? It's not always "You either produce like crazy as a freshman or you're not good." It's not like that at the big schools. You might be incredible but you might also have a bunch of other 5 star recruits in front that are juniors or seniors.
Freshmen usually shine like that when a senior just left or someone above isn't that great. In the case of Texas, they had guys.
