He talked about it as a short-term goal like "we're going to win the national championship this year." But I really don't get the heartburn over it when he stays it as a long-term or "ultimate" goal. Most of the criticism of him in this regard come from the very people who complain about "football is fifth". Does every coach and program in the country not dream and work towards a national championship? I don't see why it matters if it is stated to the public or not.
