NCAA agrees to settle head-injury class action lawsuit. Cost: $70M
A fund will be set up to test for neurological damage to athletes who played contact sports in college.

The NCAA will also establish one universal rule establishing a protocol on how teams must deal with head injuries.

For the past year, the P5 commissioners have urged the NCAA to settle many of the lawsuits so that it could concentrate on issues pertaining to student-athletes instead of spending much time and energy on defending legal challenges. The P5 have maintained that many of the lawsuits were avoidable if the NCAA had effective leadership. Scott and Delany have estimated that it would take 5-7 years for all the lawsuits to reach a conclusion.
