Todays thunder and rain reminded me of how great Hurricane Lavell was last year.
I remember being in the (often mocked) student section. We stayed out in the Rain, sung the fight song and other cheesy LDS songs. When it started getting bad we huddled under the banners that we flipped up (the ones that are along the railings at the bottom of the stands to be precise).

Hands down my favorite part was when the few remaining people in the stands got the B Y U Cougars chant going. I remember there was the 50 hard core student fans on the east side who would chant B. Then the 30 or so of us on the south would chant Y, then the best part was the two burly Polynesian dudes who would yell U for the entire west stands (they were just as loud as the rest of us). There was no one in the north stands so we all yelled cougars.

That went on for like 10 minutes. It kinda felt like we were telling the storm to do its worst because there was nothing it could do to get us out of the way for a game that we knew was going to be BIG.

After all that, the win against Texas topped off what was probably my favorite game experiences as a student at BYU.
