He was on the Adam Carolla podcast last week. Pretty interesting stuff. I don't remember everything but he said the studio told him what they were thinking about and to put something together of how he would go about the movie. Like an invitation to bid.

I don't remember everything he put together, but one part of his presentation he did a big space scene to prove he could handle a big budget in space.

He said he was very surprised he got the job. He said he was very nervous when presenting. He said he now already has offers for other big budget movies. He can't agree to one yet until the studio decides if they will do a second galaxy movie. He's contractually obligated to do the sequel if they want one.

He said that the studio hired someone else to write the script. That person wrote it. He didn't like it. Someone else then made adjustments to that original script. He still didn't like it. So he re-wrote the entire script from scratch. haha... so he supposedly will be credited along with someone else for writing the script also.
