I've dealt with back problems all of my life and here's what my doctor has said
If you are experiencing numbness and have never had it before or very rarely have numbness you need to contact your doctor's office right away. Numbness and tingling in part of your body typically means that there is some form of compromise in that nerve trunk's ability to communicate with the brain. The most common issue is physical pressure of some sort on the nerve, usually where the nerve enters the spine. Another issue is that the nerve's blood supply is being compromised, both of which need to be addressed right away.
