I don't know how to solve that except tell beginners to play easy courses that are wide open with few hazards.

Putting has never seemed like people are spending forever doing it. However, I can see that it could be fun having a much better chance to hole a longer putt and or chip. Plus, I probably would already have at least one or two holes in one if I were shooting at a 15" hole. I have come close a few times, but not gotten a hole-in-one yet.
