Actually, there weren't too many embellishments **spoilers**
The check that was left on the Propst's door was not a single check, but many people contributed to raise the $300k
Elders Tuttle and Propst were handcuffed much tighter than shown in the movie.
They were also blindfolded the entire time they were kidnapped.
Propst was from Oregon and Tuttle from Arizona, so they were Blazers/Suns fans respectively.
Should be obvious, but they were not picked up by guys driving a Chevy pickup after being released.


A couple of other tidbits:
The missionary that was kidnapped in Argentina and called Propst's parents played himself in the movie.
The actors spent more time handcuffed than the actual missionaries
The whole thing with wrapping them in plastic actually happened
The part at the church at the end also really happened
