I'd never let a little rain or even a moderate amount discourage me from going --- we've had some great times on campouts when it rained and even if it is raining hard its a great memory and experience to be playing cards inside the tent under a lantern with kids.

Stuff gets wet, you hang up up when you get home and its all good.
