The different color background makes them stand out more and feel like they are overrunning the board and I don't think that's a good thing (particularly since a grand majority of tweets are relatively un-insightful and nothing that hasn't been rehashed a hundred times on this board).

I don't think the pop open functionality is a bad thing, but I'd rather not have it pop open when I roll over ANY part of the post. It would be nice if it only opened up if you moused over a certain part of the twitter post (so the board doesn't "shake" when you mouse around).
