Fig and Olive is a great little escape
Fig and Olive in Chicago just opened up a few weeks ago (they have a couple other locations in NYC and California). The food is good (wasn't the most memorable, but definitely good food), but the atmosphere at this place is amazing. It's on Oak Street, which is a fun street to walk down, especially in the summer. It's a posh area with lots of high end shops, but it has nice trees and the buildings have lots of character. Fig and Olive is on the second and third floor of a building and it's beautiful inside. Big windows staring out into the trees, lots of light from a central skylight that flows down through both levels. I'm usually all about the food, but this place is such a nice place to escape to for a an hour or two and have a good, relaxing meal. Try to get a table on the third floor by the skylight if you go during the day. Or if it's not too hot, the patio on the third floor. Your wife will probably love this place.
