The containment facility intended to house them was jointly constructed and is operated by both institutions. I thought it was a stupid idea to bring Ebola to the US, and still do, but I think the CDC wants to learn two things from this. 1. Can western medicine make a difference in outcomes? And 2. How prepared are we for this, really? They say that Ebola would be much more well contained should it spread to the US due to better precautions and better facilities.
What we really need to worry about is if a strain of the virus develops which is contagious in incubation. As it stands, the virus incubates for about 1-2 weeks, but is only contagious once symptoms begin. A strain that is contagious during those 1-2 symptomless weeks has the potential to be a modern Black Death and could kill much of the world's population.
