OK, I know it won't happen because of the list of "ifs", but I was just thinking about a not so remote possibility.

In all likelihood there is at most 1 or 2 undefeated P5 teams at the end meaning that 2 or 3 teams will have at least a loss. So, Texas would certainly be in the playoff because they would be ranked very high after a loss early in the season, but could they take Texas and not include BYU? The answer is, yes, that is exactly what they would do. So then, what if BYU wins it's bowl game big and Texas wins the playoff? What a mess that would be. The AP will vote BYU as National Champs and the new playoff would lose all kinds of credibility.

Just an interesting thing to dream about.
