I knew an elder in my mission who was famous among us for making terrible
decisions with his money. He'd see something in a store window and spend all his money that month to get it and then not have any left over for food. He was in my MTC district, so even though in our mission I never worked closely with him, I could imagine the stories were true because I saw him do similar things while in the MTC. By shooting down the popular idea of the starving college athlete, what I am really saying is there is no good reason anyone enjoying a full ride scholarship has to live that way. Naturally we're all subject to the consequences of making terrible decisions.
