parallels Star Trek in the sense that the older ones are like the James Kirk version of Star Trek and the newer ones are more like the Jean Luc Picard Star Trek.

Do you like science fiction generally? If you do, I suggest you didn't give it enough of a chance. I stumbled onto the first episode of Matt Smith's first season as The Doctor, watched that entire season and then went back to the first modern season and caught up on Netflix. I love it.
