Obviously, the Jazz can afford another max-contract right now, but Bledsoe is the wrong position. The Jazz have Burke and Exum to tide them over for a few years while they figure out who else to pay. The hope would be that Exum becomes the max-contract point guard. By not having to pay max money for 4 years, you have time to make financial decisions on other players at other positions. Hayward's contract comes up at the same time Exum will be set to get paid.
Bringing on another max-contract guy now limits the Jazz' flexibility while they are still awful and need as much flexibility as possible to make the right decisions.
