Report on Wisconsin #BYU50 box
I don't know if anyone cares about these reports anymore, but Wisconsin is at the end of the alphabet and I don't think it should get punished for that. So here goes...

The person that placed the box is an alumnus who worked with the marketing department while at BYU. I knew beforehand that he was the person who would place the box and I joked around that I would tail him or put a tracking device on his car. I had absolutely no idea where he was going to put it, but since he lives in the Madison area I figured that would be the place.

I picked four likely places (Camp Randall, Capitol, Monona Terrace, Union Terrace). My wife and younger kids staked out the Capitol and were going to cover the Monona Terrace since it was only two blocks away. As I think about it I can't believe this was my plan. My wife is 38 weeks pregnant and the two kids she had with her are 6 and 3...was I expecting her to run in a dead sprint two blocks once the picture was tweeted? Anyway, I then put my oldest son (8 years old) at Camp Randall. I then stayed in my car and kept circling the stadium (the loop takes about 2 minutes with traffic). My plan was to wait until the pic was tweeted and then, if it wasn't at Camp Randall, swing by and pick up my son. I noticed maybe five other BYU fans staking out the stadium. I was on the phone with my wife who said there were quite a few BYU fans at the Capitol. I figured there was really no chance of getting it.

Once they tweeted out the picture I knew the place right away. On either side of downtown Madison are two large lakes. The picture was from some docks on the south side of one of the lakes facing downtown (about 10 minutes from where we were). I swung around, picked up my son, and raced to the park where the docks were. When I turned into the park I was worried that the people immediately in front of us were BYU fans, but they weren't. However, when I turned down one of small roads in the park I could see a guy right on my tail and I could see he was wearing a royal blue shirt. I told my son to unbuckle his seat belt and jump out of the car when I stopped. Right as I said that I realized, although my son is pretty fast, that he probably would have been beaten by this other guy. So, I put the car in park and jumped out (left the car running) and started running down a trail towards the docks. There were a few different trails and we didn't know which was right. The guy behind me was maybe 15 feet off and when I realized I went down the wrong trail I turned around and raced right back past him. We went around to the right trail and could see the dock. I was sprinting as fast as I could (which isn't that fast and was even slower because my legs felt like they were going to give out). Luckily I was able to keep it together and beat the other guy by 15-20 feet. Another person showed up just a minute or so later and then a few more families.

Out of the 6 or so families that ended up showing up about half drove over an hour (I think one lady and her kids were in Madison for 5 hours prior to the 6 o'clock hour). You kind of feel bad that people drove all of that way and didn't get anything. We ended up passing out the stickers and posters to the other kids, but I could tell some of the other adults were pretty disappointed. It was a fun competition and good to see other Cougar fans out and about. Today I have a weekly call with one of my customers and I try to start out the meeting with a story (or ask if anyone has some interesting story to tell). You can probably guess what story I am going to tell this week.
