I honestly feel bad for those put in compromising positions by family and church activities and other distractions. I do. I sense the angst and frustration and despair/helplessness. But I also honestly don't GET it.
There are 12 and most years 13 BYU football games. It isn't rocket science to block those dates COMPLETELY out the day the schedule is released. If you had a family vacation or an anniversary date with your HCBW scheduled, and someone tried to get you to help someone move or go camping or go to your HCBW's cousin's wedding reception, you would have no problem saying "NOPE !! Sorry - prior commitment."
Guess what? This ALSO works great for BYU football. YOU have that choice. YOU have that POWER. YOU can use the Nancy Reagan anti-drug philosophy and "JUST SAY NO."
I guess it comes down to every individual's choice of how they prioritize BYU football, and I would never presume to judge anyone else on this - really. I know this probably makes me pretty twisted, but decades ago I told my family that other than an absolute, literal EMERGENCY, don't ever plan on having me participate in anything other than 4-6 hours of watching/listening to BYU football.
I mean, c'mon. 13 dates out of 365? That leaves MORE than enough time for camping, moving parties, wedding receptions, kids soccer games etc.
As always, YOUR mileage may vary. GO COUGARS - BEAT UCONN !!!
