It seems like kids right now don't believe that rules will be "truly" enforced.
I don't know what the 100% reason is, but I have noticed that a lot of parents in our area yell, shout, demand and threaten a lot, but when it comes to following through and meting out punishments/consequences, it is more work for the parent and, thus, rarely happens. So perhaps this + entitlement generation + everybody gets a trophy + maybe some other factors= kids who think they see a "wink" after the honor code is explained.
I believe the current administration when they say that try to be as upfront as possible with recruits regarding the honor code. That may or may not have always been the case, but for any faults he may have, I feel Bronco doesn't want BYU students who are not even willing to attempt to live the honor code.
There will likely always be recruits who think that this stuff isn't "for real" until they are actually at BYU.
With those kids, you just need to wish them the best, both on and off the field. But, to be honest, it can be difficult to live the honor code even if you're 100% committed to the ideas and ideals behind it.
