I served in the Nashville mission. I spent a couple of months in the Knoxville
area tracting the students at UT in the 1980s. They may not have believed the same doctrine as the LDS church does, but they loved the Lord as they understood Him.

Unfortunately many of them relied too much on that "saved by grace" doctrine which is why the sins of the flesh didn't hinder their consciences so much. Being "saved" was good enough for them.

Overall I appreciated being around a culture that was based on faith in Jesus Christ. There were some powerfully misunderstood scriptures which served as a major stumbling block to their progression IMO. There were also a few real jerks including a few "ministers" of whom I didn't feel a lot of charity towards.

But overall I loved/love the people in the state of Tennessee for the most part.
