Also, I've decided to be bullish on this BYU team. Adding speed will make this offense a juggernaut, imo. BYU outside the fumbles/goofy penalties was positive on almost every offensive play. I saw a really different Taysom as well. Comfortable in the pocket, extending plays, totally in command. This offense can explode if Blackmon provides a threat over the top and Jamaal just does what he does best. Matthews looks improved. Houk made plays and at last showed that potential as an inside big wr. THis can be a special offense. If that game has 5 or so penalties as most do, BYU scores 45-50 points.

The weakness will be the D. Young and somewhat mismatched pieces in the front 7. Marques isn't gonna save the day for this group. Maybe Tausinga can. But these guys desperately need a Manu-type rock in the middle and a consistent pass rusher to be one of the really good Bronco defenses. The secondary concerns as well. JJ not moving up the depth chart makes me wonder if he'll ever come back to himself. Sometimes guys don't come back from ACLs very well at BYU. Trammel may be more Tico Pringle than Omar Morgan. Davis is fast and has potential but is probably a year away from being really good. Bills is great but injury prone. RoDan is solid but no star. All in all I think this defense gives up points to a decent qb. We may not play many of those this year though, so who knows. Bronco plays very conservatively with his D when he knows he doesn't have horses. Uconn was as conservative a game as he's had since 2009. And I know, Howell is technically DC but we all know who calls the shots on D.

So I may sound down on the D, but I think it won't matter most weeks. ANd I think our O has the potential to be as good as any of Anae's offenses. Whether or not we go undefeated depends on how the ball bounces in a few close games. We'll see. Beat Texas and suddenly you feel very, very good about your shot at making the fiesta bowl, or whatever bowl takes the non AQ team.
