And of your information, there have been plenty of experiments showing that animals behave rationally. The study you cited is just an optimization problem applied to animals, not all the different from economic studies of human interaction.
You claimed that game theory is pure mathematics. That claim is absurd on it's face. Game theory was formalized into mathematical language, but the impetus for developing it was address the quintessential economics questions.
I think your problem is due to not know what economics actually is.
