Rules regarding school allegiances.
This is definitive. I am telling you, this is gospel.

1) If you graduated from a Division 1 school, that's YOUR school. You cheer for them. Don't want to be tied to that school for the rest of your life? Don't go there. And listen up you Ute grads who are now cheering for the Y. You're still Utes. As much as you hate it, by definition, you're Utes. Deal with it (rather, embrace it ).

2) If you go to a D1AA or lower, cheer for whomever you want, but know, for example, that if you went to UVU and cheer for the Y, or UIC and cheer for Northwestern, or SeattleU and you cheer for UW, you will probably be dismissed as a wannabe by the actual alumni and dismissed as poser by rivals. Nothing is more annoying that Ute fans who didn't go to the U. They're usually the most obnoxious. And that goes the same for Cougar fans.

3) If you go to a D1 grad school after attending a D1AA or lower school, go ahead and cheer for your grad school....but let it be known, that's weird.

4) If you go to both D1 undergrad and grad, undergrad trumps grad. Cheer for your undergrad.

5) If you go graduated from BYU-I or BYU-H, see Rule #2. It's like graduating from Cal-San Luis Obispo and claiming Berkeley or UCLA. They are not the same institution.

Now go forth and cheer.
