I liked Schmidt, BTW--but his defensive philosophies didn't change with the times, unfortunately. However, he was one of the most dominant HS football coaches in Utah state history, so I've heard--& in the mid-80s his BYU defenses were superb, obviously. It's really too bad that guy faced the criticism he did when he left. Yeah, his defenses were frustrating to watch at times, but the guy gave us his best.
