the girls there have a pretty good buddy system and try to avoid walking alone late. But sometimes it requires some judgement...my daughter likes to go running around campus by herself. I think that's probably OK but yes, you haveto be careful when you're a girl.

the thing is, don't think this has anything to do with UVA. She did not go missing near the campus or her apartment. She was in downtown C-Ville at 1:30 AM by herself. THis is more of a C-Ville issue so I sure hate to see get UVA dragged into it. And it may not even be a C-Ville issue...it may have something to do with her own choice to be downtown - but I don't want to speculate beyond that as I don't want to come across as "blaming the victim"
