The bottom line is this: they know full well BYU would be a tough opponent for their middle to lower rung teams and they don't want those teams to lose to a team like BYU. Those teams (like Virginia) will be much less likely to schedule BYU in the future because now they also have to play another P5 conference team, and while they're trying to rebuild and get better they'll not want to play such a team, plus a team like BYU. The upper level teams will also most likely not schedule us because they don't want to play away from home. It sucks and we need to flat out embarrass Virginia tomorrow.
