I could not agree more!!! When BYU's punter is putting them on the 10 yard line or back, as he did a few times; they are going to have opportunities for long drives. Long drives = big stats and T of P BYU did not play their greatest game on either side of the ball, but they were pretty dang efficient, and got the stops when they needed to. The time of possession, also took a toll on the defense, who were tired at the end of the game. VA was running a very similar offense to what BYU normally runs, with a lot of screen passes and short yardage plays, that were made possible by tall receivers that were simply out jumping a lot of our secondary. There were also a lot of broken arm tackles, but very few big yardage plays by Va. It was frustrating to watch live, but was much different when I watched it at home on my television, when I got home. Both of their QBs, were hanging in there, and taking some big shots in order to get those big stats.
On the other side of the ball, BYU was very efficient on offense. 60 plays, for 41 points without a defensive TD= very efficient. Again, it looked very different live than on television, and Taysom was not as inaccurate as I had thought during the game. In fact, there were a lot of passes that were either dropped, or the defense simply made a great play on the ball. Of course, throw in the fact that BYU's receivers were also being held and interfered without being supported with a flag, and you walk away happy. If you did not watch the game, and just read the box score; you would never have been able to figure out how BYU won this game. BYU's punter and defense, deserves a lot of credit for putting VA in bad situations, and not letting anyone behind them. Had the offense allowed the defense a little more time to rest, before scoring; than this could easily have been a blowout.
