RE: No one has a problem with legit football. It was late hitting qb and driving
What did the fans do? We cheered, is that wrong? We were respectful when your QB went down, was that wrong? We voiced our displeasure over what we saw as missed calls, would you have done it differently if you were at home and your fans felt like the refs missed a call/calls? It is all part of the game, and part of being a fan. Maybe booing the refs was a little much, but BYU fans are extremely passionate, and we will let the ACC refs know when we feel as if they were giving an ACC calls, or no calls. Heck, it goes both ways, and it is all over your messageboard about calls that were even reviewed. aka the 4th down fumble
As for late hits, I am still trying to figure out what you are referring to? All the late hits that I saw while at the game(I have excellent seats, and can see a lot) and on the DVR recording that I watched when I got home, were flagged. BYU was really pumped up for a game, that they felt ruined their chances at a good season last year. They felt like they should have beat UVA last year, felt like they were going to face a really good team this year, and they were coming out to intimidate with an aggressive nature that walks the line of being penalized. In fact, they went over that line too many times, and it kept UVA in a game, that was looking to be a 2nd half blowout. Had BYU not been penalized so many times, there is no way that BYU's defense would have spent 3/4 of the game on the field. I give UVA's receivers a TON of credit and respect, for holding to the majority of their passes, because they were getting popped by guys like Bills and Leavitt. BYU chose to play a bend but not break defense, and that meant that they were not going to let their man get behind them, and were playing pretty far off of the receivers. UVA recognized that, and kept going with screen passes, that resulted in leaving their receivers open to getting nailed by the secondary and linebackers, that were playing off of them. The majority of teams that BYU has played in this manor, have either dropped the passes, or fumbled when they got sandwiched or popped from behind. UVA's QBs were also staying in the pocket for a long time, and their O-line was getting tired from the many long drives that they were forced into by our punter. By staying in the pocket with a combo of elevation and tired O linemen, their QBs were getting smashed as they were releasing the ball. There was not a single late hit call on our defense, because they were hitting him as he was throwing it. IT was not dirty, and was just hard nosed football. Your coaches and players would not characterize it at all in the same way as the fans are after losing, and that is too bad. I was shocked that your starting QB, was able to stay in as long as he did. Remington Peck was hitting him hard in the 2nd quarter, and I thought he was going out before half-time. I believe that your driving into the ground comment, has something to do with Pecks hits on him, but go and re-watch the game with an open mind. He was form tackling, and going to the ground. Give your QB some credit, he just got nailed repeatedly, by several 310lb plus, players, that will probably be playing in the NFL in a few years.
