I assume many announcers don't care about who wins, but want the maximum number of people possible to keep watching, hearing the sound of their voices, etc. Virginia got back in the game and made it look like it was going to go down to the wire. That's a plus for the narrative from a neutral standpoint. The Hine runback seemed to put the game back out of reach.
