Jimmy Mac in spite of his flamboyance was the consummate team player and he never held himself as better than anyone else. If your idea was going to create any perception whatsoever of elevating him above the other inductees...of creating a "separate but equal" sentiment...he'd be throwing out four letter encouragement to the organizer to get it right.
I have no problem with the football game being focused on the football player...and also recognizing the other athletes individually during their own sports. But it should never be set up as an "all animals are equal but Jimmy Mac is more equal" deal. It would be a disservice to the type of guy he is to do so. The ceremony is happening the night before the game. To ignore the other athletes completely wouldn't represent the values of the university very well...and what's more important, Jimmy Mac would hate it.
