You just have to follow the $$. Think about it....of course they want the teams in their league to win and do well. Their conferences provide their paychecks. You all of the sudden are refereeing for a loser of an employer(conference), there's a good chance you may have to find another employer(conference). Your best interests as a referee aren't in calling a fair game, but for the teams in your conference to do well so the conference gets more praise, exposure, and even better, revenues.
I know many would like us to think refs are all honest and trustworthy, but my trust level for refs is no better than politicians in Washington.
