So far I have been to both BYU homes games. Both felt the complete opposite. The UH game felt like we were never going to lose. UVA never felt like we were going to win. I am from Idaho and have made the trip twice. This was an extra special game for me since it was with my dad, both brothers, my son, and my brother's sons.
It reminded me of when I went to games as a kid. I remember leaving after high school football with a group of cousins and friends all riding in the camper on the back of my dad's 79 ford truck. We showed up and 1:30 A.M. and parked in the Church parking lot on the North-West side of LES. My dad an uncles threw out pads and sleeping bags on the grass while we all slept in the camper. My dad remembers waking up in his G's as people we walking into the Church to clean it that Saturday morning. I remember winning T-shirts from Macey's. I can't remember which game it was, but I will always remember the trip.
Flash-forward to Saturday, we made good time down and did all of the tailgate events. We got free shirts, threw footballs, and had a blast. The game was hot, but it was fun. My son and nephews all had a blast yelling for BYU. It is amazing how time goes by and new generations are here to share experiences for BYU football. I remember my dad and grandpa taking me to the pigskin classic against aTm. I hope my son remembers going to the game with the whole group. The experience means more to me that who won, although BYU pulling it out in the end was icing on the cake.
As for our ranking, I am going to try and not worry about it. We can't control anything other than cheering for BYU to win all the rest and see how it plays out. For all those with sons, take them to the games. Get off the couch, take away their phones, and get out and make some memories. Soon they will be grown and all you will have are the experiences you shared together.
Go Cougs!
