Someone's TIC post yesterday about filling in the corners with with swimming pools a la Jacksonville Jaguars got me thinking about a solution to make LES a better game day situation. Obviously filling the corners in would make the stadium louder, and frankly just look bigger and cooler.
The answer obviously isn't more seats, as stadium attendance is trending in the wrong direction.
BYU should look at building some sort of free standing buildings in the vacant corners to host corporate gatherings, since there is little to no space for that sort of thing in the press box.
They don't have to be huge and they should be far enough back from the field to not impede the view of those in stadium seating, but essentially they could just be rooms big enough to host large groups for game day parties.
Provide food, tons of tv screens, stuff like that. Make them like real suites at a professional game. If it's something that people feel cool about posting pics on Facebook/Instagram/twitter etc, they will fill up, and pay for themselves rather quickly. That's the kind of crowd that athletic departments need to cater to now.
Anyway, just a random idea, something that I'm sure will be easy to poke holes in. I love LES, but I've noticed from watching the last 2 home games that TV angles do not do it justice. The 4 desperate free-standing crowd sections make it look like an overgrown high school stadium. If would be great to somehow pull the 4 sections together and make it seem like 1 single space.
