If someone plays in less than a certain percentage of games because a doctor never cleared them, you can petition the NCAA at the end of the season for another year of eligibility. If it's an open and shut case then it's always granted. From what I've heard, this wouldn't be an open and shut case as he's played in too many games and he is most likely going to get a medical clearance this year. He most likely wouldn't be granted another year of eligibility with his situation.
