Utah is a dangerous job now... if you don't succeed at Utah, in the PAC... your reputation is in trouble. It may have been easier to find a coach, that was a former coach looking to move up to a bigger team, if he did well at Utah while in the MWC... look at Meyer. If you had failed at Utah, you always had the excuse of it being the MWC hard to recruit for that. If you fail at Utah being in the PAC... that's a career killer.
Utah is a no win situation because you have to find some way of making Utah competitive with the USC, UCLA, Oregon and Arizona schools.... it's not going to happen. The school has little to no tradition, the fan support is limited to a small area of Utah and an Independent school 40 miles away controls the entire states media market.
The popularity of being a Ute fan is starting to go away like beanie babies and jelly shoes did. If BYU somehow manages to get into the BIGXII... it's over for Utah. Utah's Vanilla Ice Ice Baby popularity is toast. Utah will have to find someone willing to take a risk, and typically that is someone that has no head coaching experience and the "Urban Meyer" types that are succeeding at a smaller school will probably say no thanks.
