So I'm wondering if it's the termites who took Beth or some other group? If it was the termites it would be NUTS! If she joined them and went full cannibal!

I'm thinking the preachers wife/love interest was killed at the food bank and he holed up in the church after he killed those people who killed her, but he didn't know about having to go for the brain as she died at the start of all the craziness.

Also I'm going to be glad when Rick gets to machete him some termites.
