Bronco views his job as a calling, which is why he often says the things he does
And because he views it as a calling, he feels entitled to have the full support of the fans, regardless of circumstances. He is doing this more because he feels obligated to do it than because it is what he really enjoys doing. He is open about the fact that he does not enjoy college football, that he does not watch other games (outside of game prep), that his wife probably watches more college football than he does, that he enjoys practices more than game day, etc.

Because he essentially views his job as a "calling," he expects to be above criticism of the fans. Because he views himself as a quasi-church leader, he doesn't understand why the Cougar Club's support is "conditional." As long as he is the head football coach, the fans should support him. They shouldn't leave games early. They should buy more tickets. And they shouldn't occasionally boo things like punting instead of going for it on fourth down.

But the fans don't always treat Bronco like a church leader. So in his words, many of the fans are like "pharisees and sadducees." They should be called out if they leave a game early or don't sell out the stadium. Regardless of what is happening on the field, the fans (at least those who are members of the LDS church) have a religious obligation to support Bronco.
