For me it's not about losing 3 games THIS season...
I have been saying for years that Bronco while a decent coach and good guy is just not anywhere near being an elite coach. But the problems with Bronco have always been there. Even when we were winning a lot of game back in 2008 & 2009. It was after the TCU game in 2009 that I realized what we had in Bronco. The last 5 years have only served as constant reminders that my conclusions of Bronco on that day still hold true today.

Look, if you are content with 7-9 wins a year playing a watered-down independent schedule, then I can't blame you for being somewhat defensive. But that's definitely not me. I have no problems with the firesides or focus on other things outside of football. But I also have no problem saying that being successful on the football field is not mutually exclusive with helping kids do well off the football field as well.

The only loss that has really surprised me is the way that the team got beaten like a rented mule in the first half of the Utah State game. Even at 4-0 I just didn't see this team going undefeated but I also didn't see BYU DBs getting beaten by 10-15 yards on big pass plays against the Aggies and this with our starters still healthy. I expected SOME adjustments to be made on the bye week after the pass defense looked pretty poor against Houston & UVA. But not making adjustments in time is just par for the course for Bronco so when I step back there really is no surprise why things unfolded the way they have.

Thus, the losses at UCF and at home versus Nevada are not surprising considering how bad the defense is, the number of overall injuries and the fact that we have a QB that is playing his first real college football games. After the Utah State loss I said I would not be surprised to see BYU at 4-4 and baring some major improvements that's exactly where BYU will be in around 48 hours from now. I'm not gloating about being right but rather just stating that it was pretty obvious just how bad this team was going to be without Taysom.

But overall what we are seeing is Bronco Mendenhall football and it will never change because he just isn't capable of making wholesale changes.
