I think the difference is pretty minimal.
First, how often do we actually have teams that would qualify for it? When was the last time? 2001? 1996? Those are probably the only two possible seasons since 1984.

Next, if we were 12-0 this year, most likely we get in either way. Sure there's a chance a 12-0 independent could get left out, but there's also a chance that a 12-0 ECU beats out a 12-0 MWC team.

Let's say we go 11-1. As an independent we possibly get in if things fell right. If we're 11-1 in the MWC AND ranked higher than all other teams we for sure get in. However, BSU currently sits with one loss in the MWC and, as things currently sit, would be the third highest G5 team and would therefore not make it in. So, you could say there's a slightly better chance that being in the MWC would be better in this case.

Obviously 10-2 and it doesn't matter what conference we're in.

Between the low chances of us actually qualifying (based on historical results) and the small difference in our actual opportunities, I think that NY6 access should be a very small consideration when deciding whether to be independent or not.
