Your last paragraph is much the same reason
soccer is such a fantastic sport. I don't get every nuance of baseball, but there is no question how strongly stats and probabilities and player tendencies factor into managerial strategy for the game. Tactically, soccer is as cerebral as any sport for the manager considering the formations, attacks, possession and run of play are all modified during the course of an uninterrupted game. It's fun to watch any sport as you have a better understanding of the why behind what is being done.
