To too many, it is just an extension of Church culture. Obey, obey, obey.
Don't question your leaders, and fall in line.
It's probably the reason the absurdly dated dress and grooming standards are stiill part of the honor code.
It can just as easily be spun as a "trial of your faith that doesn't need to be understood," as it would be to update it.
